bna-app ("we", "us", "the App operator") is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) and other applicable data protection laws.

We collect the following personal information when you use the App:
- Account information: Name, email address, phone number, and password (hashed)
- Business information: Business name, description, location, contact details, and images (for business owners)
- Location data: Approximate or precise location, only when you activate the SOS panic feature or opt in to location-based services
- Device information: Device type, operating system, browser type, and IP address
- Usage data: Pages viewed, features used, and interactions within the App
- Messages: Content of messages sent through the App's messaging system
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the App's services
- To connect you with businesses and customers
- To send SOS alerts to your selected security company (including your name and location)
- To process payments for licences and add-on services
- To send service-related notifications (e.g., new messages, invoice reminders)
- To improve the App and develop new features
- To detect and prevent fraud, misuse, and security threats
4. Legal Basis for Processing
We process your personal information based on:
- Your explicit consent (given at registration)
- Performance of a contract (providing the App's services)
- Legitimate interests (improving the App, preventing fraud)
- Compliance with legal obligations
5. Sharing Your Information
We may share your information with:
- Security companies: When you press the SOS button, your name and location are shared with your selected security company
- Payment processors: PayFast processes payment information; we do not store your banking details
- Service providers: Hosting, analytics, and notification services that assist in operating the App
- Law enforcement: When required by law or to protect the safety of users
6. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include encryption, access controls, and regular security assessments.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App's services. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
8. Your Rights Under POPIA
Under POPIA, you have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal information (subject to legal exceptions)
- Objection: Object to the processing of your personal information for specific purposes
- Complaint: Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator
9. Location Data & SOS Feature
When you use the SOS panic feature, your location (approximate or precise) is collected and shared with your selected security company. This location data is not stored beyond the duration of the SOS event, unless required for incident reporting. You may disable location access at any time through your device settings, but this will prevent the SOS feature from functioning.
10. Cookies & Tracking
The App uses essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels.
11. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the App or via email.
